…4 April 1866, the assassination of Russian Emperor Alexander II. Dmitrii Vladimilovich Karakozov (1840-66) was born into a family of fallen nobles in Saratov Province. He enrolled at Kazan University but was expelled. He returned two years later, but transferred to Moscow University, from which he was also expelled in the autumn of 1865. There he joined the organization led by his cousin Isshutin, which was based on the student movement. …
