A former town in Shiga County in western Shiga Prefecture. It faces Lake Biwa and is served by the Kosei Line and Kosai Road. The Hira Mountains are in the west. The town is an agricultural area. There are swimming pools on the lakeshore, such as Omi Maiko, and it is part of Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar site. It is home to Ono no Takamura Shrine and the grave of Ono no Imoko. Incorporated into Otsu City in March 2006. Area: 71.73 km2 . Population: 22,637 (2003).

Shiga [town] [shika]

A town in Hakui County, on the west coast of the Noto Peninsula in northern Ishikawa Prefecture. The main settlement is Takahama, and roof tiles are a specialty of the town. The fishing port of Abeya flourished as a port for Kitamae ships in the early modern period and as a producer of Abeya cloth. The scenic Noto Kongo mountain range is located on the coast, and the town is included in the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park. The Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred in March 2007 caused extensive damage to houses and other structures. In September 2005, Tokui Town, Hakui County, was incorporated into the town. Area: 246.76 km2 . Population: 22,216 (2010).

志賀[町]【しか】

石川県北部,能登半島西岸の羽咋(はくい)郡の町。中心集落は高浜で,瓦を特産。漁港安部屋(あべや)は近世北前船の港,安部屋布産地として栄えた。海岸には景勝の能登金剛があり,能登半島国定公園に含まれる。2007年3月に発生した能登半島地震では家屋などに多数の被害が出た。2005年9月羽咋郡富来町を編入。246.76km2。2万2216人(2010)。
