Ina Highway - Inakaido

…Post stations were established on the Nakasendo, one of the five main roads, in 1602, and on the Koshu road where it joined the Nakasendo at Shimo-Suwa-juku, around 1615. The main roads in Shinano following the five main roads were the Hokkoku Okan, which branches off from the Nakasendo at Oiwake-juku, the Hokkoku Nishi Okan (Zenkoji Kaido), which branches off from the Nakasendo at Arimajuku, and the Itoigawa Kaido, which runs north. The Ina Kaido, which runs south from Matsumoto to Mikawa and Totomi, and the Saku-Koshu Road, which connects the Nakasendo and the Koshu road, were also important, and post stations or horse relay stations were established on these roads. Among the post stations, Iwamurata, Shimo-Suwa, and Fukushima on the Nakasendo, Honunno and Sakaki on the Hokkoku Okan, Aoyagi, Omi, and Inariyama on the Zenkoji Kaido, and Ikeda and Omachi on the Itoigawa Kaido developed as rural towns. …

…宿駅は五街道の中山道に1602年，これと下諏訪宿で合流する甲州道中に15年ころ設置された。五街道につぐ信濃の幹線道路では，中山道追分宿分岐の北国往還，同洗馬宿からの北国西往還(善光寺街道)，松本からの糸魚川街道がそれぞれ北上し，松本から伊那を南下して三河･遠江に至る伊那街道，中山道と甲州道中を結ぶ佐久甲州道なども重要であったが，これらの街道にも宿駅ないし馬継場が設けられた。宿駅のうち，中山道の岩村田，下諏訪，福島，北国往還の本海野，坂木，善光寺街道の青柳，麻績（おみ），稲荷山，糸魚川街道の池田，大町などは在郷町として発展した。…
