Born: December 12, 1792.
[Died] January 31, 1828.
A leader in the Greek War of Independence. A Phanariot aristocrat. He served in the Russian army, but in 1820 he joined the Greek secret society "Filiki Eteria." In 1821 he led a volunteer army from Russia to Moldova and Wallachia, but was defeated by the Ottoman army. He fled to Austria, where he was arrested and imprisoned. This rebellion marked the beginning of the Greek War of Independence.
