Born: December 12, 1792. [Died] January 31, 1828. A leader in the Greek War of Independence. A Phanariot aristocrat. He served in the Russian army, but in 1820 he joined the Greek secret society "Filiki Eteria." In 1821 he led a volunteer army from Russia to Moldova and Wallachia, but was defeated by the Ottoman army. He fled to Austria, where he was arrested and imprisoned.
