Ibusuki [city] - Ibusuki

Japanese: 指宿[市] - いぶすき
Ibusuki [city] - Ibusuki
A city occupying the southeastern part of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line runs through it. Many hot springs (weakly alkaline saline springs, 60°C) spring up along the coast of Kagoshima Bay, and it has developed into a hot spring city in the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park. The city is also popular for cultivating ornamental plants and vegetables using the heat from the hot springs, and for eel farming. There is the Tropical Botanical Garden attached to Kagoshima University, and an artifact-bearing layer (historic site) where Jomon and Yayoi pottery was excavated. Lake Ikeda is located in the west, Eel Pond in the center, and Mt. Kaimon on the southwestern edge. The natural sand bath hot springs are famous. In January 2006, Yamakawa Town and Kaimon Town in Ibusuki County were incorporated. 148.84 km2 . 44,396 people (2010).
