Kofu duty

The Edo Shogunate established this position under the Roju in order to protect and manage Kofu Castle and to control the town of Kofu. In 1724 (Kyoho 9), Yanagisawa Yoshisato, the lord of Kofu Castle, was transferred to Yamato Koriyama, and the entire Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture) became a direct domain of the Shogunate. The position was made up of 200 guards, 20 Yoriki, and 100 constables under two supervisors, divided into two groups, Ote and Yamate, and each group had 1 supervisor, 2 group leaders, and 10 karimetsuki under them, dividing the two groups into 14 groups. The two groups worked alternate days, working in the dressing room of the castle in day and night shifts. The civil affairs of Kofu were handled by both supervisors on a monthly basis. Many supervisors and guards were appointed from the Kobushin group. The ruler was the head of the Magistrate of a distant province, with a stipend of 3,000 koku and a salary of 1,000 koku, while the guards had stipends ranging from 500 koku to 200 koku. Appointment to duty guards was called "mountain drifting" and was disliked.

江戸幕府が、甲府城の守護・管理と甲府町方支配のため、老中の下に設置した職名。1724年（享保9）甲府城主柳沢吉里(やなぎさわよしさと)は大和郡山(やまとこおりやま)に転封、甲斐(かい)国（山梨県）全域が幕府直轄領となり設置。構成は、支配2名の下に番士200名、与力(よりき)20騎、同心100名を配置、大手、山手2組に分け、各組は支配1名、組頭(くみがしら)2名の下に仮目付(かりめつけ)10名を置き、両組を14組に分ける。勤務は両組隔日交代、昼夜交代で城内楽屋殿に勤番。また甲府民政は両支配が月番で処理。支配、番士とも多く小普請(こぶしん)組より任命。支配は遠国奉行(おんごくぶぎょう)筆頭、高3000石、役料1000石、番士は高500石から200俵取まで。勤番士への任命は「山流し」などといわれ嫌われた。
