During the Joseon Dynasty, Korea, this was an office whose duty was to handle royal orders and official reports to the king. It was the successor to the Goryeo Dynasty's Jongwon, and after several modifications, was established in the mid-15th century, and was renamed Seungseonwon during the Gabo Reforms of 1894. It was made up of officials such as Seungji and Juseo. The Seungji were divided into six departments, namely, Clerical, House, Rites, Military, Pyongyang, and Works, and shared duties. They held important positions in each department and wielded power as the king's aides. The official records of this office, Seungjeongwon Diaries, numbering 3,047 volumes covering the period from 1623 to 1894, remain to this day.
