A cold-tolerant perennial plant of the Polemonium family native to North America. It is also called Oiransou. Along with its congeners Moss Phlox and Phlox, it is a popular flower that decorates summer gardens, but was introduced to Japan in the Meiji era. Its Japanese name was given to it because the stems, leaves, and flowers of this herbaceous plant resemble those of oleander at first glance. It grows several upright stems that reach about 60 to 120 cm from the base of the plant, and at the top of the stems, clusters of high, tray-shaped flowers with a diameter of 2 to 3 cm bloom in a panicle. It flowers from June to September. Flower colors include purple, red, pink, and white. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
