Niterói - Niteroi (English spelling)

A city in the state of Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil. It faces Rio de Janeiro at the mouth of Guanabara Bay and serves as a residential satellite city of the city. Population 459,451 (2000). Ferries frequently run between Rio and Guanabara Bay, but the 14-kilometer Niterói Bridge was completed in 1974, and the two cities are becoming more integrated. Shipbuilding, metalworking, food processing, and other industries are based here. It is known as a seaside resort with excellent bathing beaches, and there are many famous places and historical sites, such as the Church of Boa Viagem. There is a large orange-producing area on the outskirts.

ブラジル南東部、リオ・デ・ジャネイロ州の都市。グアナバラ湾の湾口にリオ・デ・ジャネイロ市と相対し、同市の住宅衛星都市の役割も果たしている。人口45万9451（2000）。リオ市との間に渡し船が頻繁に通っているが、1974年にグアナバラ湾を横断する全長14キロメートルのニテロイ橋が完成し、両市の一体化が進んでいる。造船、金属、食品加工などの工業が立地する。優れた海水浴場をもつ海浜保養地として知られ、ボア・ビアージェン教会などの名所・旧跡も少なくない。郊外にはオレンジの大産地がある。
