It was opened in 1599 with the support of the Tokushima Domain, and by 1644, 12 villages in Fuya had been established. The salt produced by these 12 villages was called Saida salt, but as salt with this name was widely used, it was also called Hon-Saida salt. The production volume in 1653 was about 500,000 bales, and it is said that it was shipped to Edo on 250 to 300 ships. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was 1.32 million bales (1.77 million bales in the entire Tokushima Domain). There are also other salts produced in different areas within the Tokushima Domain, such as Tokusai salt and Nansai salt. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
