Peace Treaty between Japan and the Republic of China

Japanese: 日華平和条約 - にっかへいわじょうやく(英語表記)Peace Treaty between Japan and the Republic of China
Peace Treaty between Japan and the Republic of China
A peace treaty concluded on April 28, 1952, after World War II, between Japan and the Nationalist government of the Republic of China in Taiwan. It agreed to the end of the state of war between Japan and the Republic of China and the resumption of normal relations. It was signed in Taipei. China was not invited to the San Francisco Peace Conference in September 1951 due to disagreement between the United Kingdom and the United States over whether the Taipei government or the Beijing government was the legitimate representative of China. Later, at the request of the United States, Japan expressed its readiness to conclude a peace treaty with the Nationalist government in the "Yoshida Letter" to J. Dulles on December 24 of the same year, and signed the treaty on April 28, 1952, the day the peace treaty came into effect (August 5, 1952). The People's Republic of China strongly insisted on the abolition of this treaty as one of the prerequisites for the restoration of diplomatic relations between Japan and China. Diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China were established through the Japan-China Joint Communiqué signed on September 29, 1972, and the Japan-China Peace Treaty no longer had any meaning in continuing to exist.
