Zanardelli, Giuseppe

Born: October 26, 1826 in Brescia
[Died] December 26, 1903. Maderno. Italian politician and lawyer. Participated in the Risorgimento movement, and was a member of the Italian parliament from 1861 until his death. He was interested in social reform from a liberal standpoint, and played a central role in the establishment of the new penal code in 1890. From 1976 he served as various ministers. He was prime minister from 1901 to 1903, but faced with labor disputes, he left the position to G. Giolitti, who he had appointed as Minister of the Interior, to resolve them.
