Taishaku Mountains - Taishakusanchi

Japanese: 帝釈山地 - たいしゃくさんち
Taishaku Mountains - Taishakusanchi
A mountain range stretching from west-southwest to east-northeast along the border of Tochigi and Fukushima prefectures. In the west, 2000m-class peaks such as Mt. Taishaku (2060m) and Mt. Kuroiwa (2163m) stand tall, while in the east, peaks such as Mt. Araumi (1581m) and Mt. Ojika (1777m) are low. The terrain is undulating, but the summits are flat, with the Tashiro and Kinunuma marshes. The mountain range is made up of Palaeozoic and Neogene layers and igneous rocks. The Kinugawa River and Tone River flow to the south, and the Agano River to the north, forming a watershed between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. The Kinugawa River system includes the Kawamata Dam and the Ikari Dam, which are used to regulate the flow of water and generate electricity. Transportation within the mountain range is inconvenient, and there are many unexplored areas that are rarely visited. There is also a village with a legend of Heike refugees. There are also hot springs in the upper reaches of the Kinugawa River, and it is part of Nikko National Park and Oze National Park.
