Japanese: 日南海岸 - にちなんかいがん

The coast of southern Miyazaki Prefecture. It generally refers to the 90 km stretch from Aoshima in the south of Miyazaki City to Toimisaki in Kushima City. The northern half is made up of thin alternating layers of sandstone and mudstone from the Neogene period, while the southern half is made up of thick alternating layers of sandstone and shale from the Paleogene period. In the northern half of the coast, a topography called "Devil's Washboard" can be seen due to selective erosion by the sea. Due to the warm and rainy climate, subtropical plants such as Chinese fan palm, Chinese lantern plant, and cycad flourish, and there is also a cactus park, giving it a tropical atmosphere. The offshore area is a good fishing ground for bonito and tuna due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current. There are many scenic spots, and it has been designated as Nichinan Coast Quasi-National Park. The JR Nichinan Line and National Route 220 pass through the area.

宮崎県南部の海岸。一般に宮崎市南部の青島付近から串間市都井岬付近にいたる約 90kmをいう。北半は新第三紀層の砂岩と泥岩の薄い互層から成り，南半は古第三紀層の砂岩と頁岩の厚い互層から成っている。北半の海岸では海食の選択浸食作用で「鬼の洗濯板」と呼ばれる地形がみられる。温暖多雨の気候のためビロウ，アコウ，ソテツなどの亜熱帯性植物が茂り，サボテン公園もあって南国情緒を示す。沖合いは黒潮の影響でカツオ，マグロの好漁場。景勝地が多く，日南海岸国定公園に指定。 JR日南線，国道 220号線が通る。
