〘Noun〙 A Shinto ritual held within the Imperial Palace on the last day of the months of June and December, as well as on special occasions, to purify oneself of sins. Also the words for the purification ritual performed at that time. It is so named because the Nakatomi clan has been in charge of it for generations. Oharae . Nakatomi harai. 〘名〙 宮内で六月・一二月の晦日(つごもり)、および臨時に、罪けがれを清めるために行なった神事。また、その時の祓のことば。中臣氏が代々つかさどっていたところからいう。大祓(おおはらえ)。なかとみのはらい。なかとみばらい。※古語拾遺(嘉祿本訓)(807)「国罪は、国中の人民(をほふたから)の犯せる罪なり。其の事具に中臣禊(ハラヘ)の詞に在り」
