A winter sports center in the canton of Graubünden in southeastern Switzerland. Population 5,900 (1980). The main part of the town is on the northwest shore of Lake St. Moritz. It is located at an altitude of 1,822m and is also famous as a summer resort. The nearby Corvatsch mountain (3,451m) is a mecca for summer skiing. The hot springs (iron springs) on the south shore of the lake have been known since ancient times and were a famous pilgrimage site. Since the end of the 19th century, it has developed rapidly, and in 1980 it was visited by more than 190,000 tourists and sports enthusiasts.
