Nishi no Uchigami - Nishi no Uchigami

Japanese: 西の内紙 - にしのうちがみ
Nishi no Uchigami - Nishi no Uchigami
Also known as Nishinouchi. A thick handmade washi paper made from paper mulberry. It was named after the fact that it was made in Nishinouchi, Yamagata-cho, Ibaraki Prefecture (now Hitachi-Omiya City). It is still produced in small quantities today, and its strength has led to a wide range of uses, including for crafts, records, and umbrella paper. In 1977, it was designated a national intangible cultural property along with Hodomura-shi from Karasuyama-cho, Tochigi Prefecture (now Nasukarasuyama City).
