Inosit

Also known as inositol. It is a cyclic _hexahydric alcohol with _the molecular formula _C6H12O6 _. There are many stereoisomers, but the most important is myoinositol (also called mesoinositol), which is found in plants either free or in the form of phosphate esters, and in animals it exists free in muscles and in the form of inositol phospholipids. It promotes the growth of many microorganisms. As a medicine, 0.5 to 2 g per day is taken orally to prevent arteriosclerosis and fatty liver, and 3 g or more per day is taken for treatment. (Figure)

イノシトールともいう。分子式C₆H₁₂O₆で環状の６価アルコール。多くの立体異性体があるが，重要なものはミオイノシット（メソイノシットとも）で，植物では遊離またはリン酸エステルの形で含まれ，動物では筋肉などに遊離して存在するほか，イノシットリン脂質のかたちで存在する。多くの微生物の発育を促進。医薬として動脈硬化・脂肪肝予防に１日0.5〜2g，治療に１日3g以上を内服する。（図）
