Japanese: ナンキンムシ(南京虫) - ナンキンムシ（英語表記）bed bug

A general term for insects in the Hemiptera family, Cimicidae, or a common name for one of these species. Insects in this family are flat and light brown to reddish brown in color. They have small compound eyes and five slender antennae. They suck the blood of animals by sticking out their slender proboscis in bird nests and caves where bats live, and some species live inside houses to suck human blood. Both the front and back wings have degenerated and become small semicircular plates that do not open. Their legs are well developed and they walk quickly. Their tarsus is three segments long, and scent glands open at the base of their hind legs, which release a smelly liquid when touched, hence the name "smelly bug" in China.

半翅目トコジラミ科Cimicidaeの昆虫の総称，またはそのうちの1種の俗称。この科の昆虫は扁平で淡褐色から赤褐色。複眼は小さい。触角は5節で細長い。鳥の巣やコウモリのすむ洞窟内などで細長い口吻（こうふん）を出して動物を吸血し，数種は家屋内にいて人血を吸う。前･後翅ともに退化して，小型な半円形板状となり開かない。肢はよく発達し歩行は速い。跗節（ふせつ）は3節で，後脚基部に臭腺が開孔し，触ると臭い液を出すので，中国では〈臭虫〉という。
