...A war fought between Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, the governor of Mutsu and the Shogun of the Chinjufu, and the Abe clan of Mutsu Province from 1056 (Tenki 4) to 62 (Kohira 5). In the past, the 12 years from 1051 (Eisho 6) when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi became the governor of Mutsu to 62 were considered to be a period of war, and were called the Twelve Years of War in Oshu. Abe no Yoriyoshi was the head of the fushiyu (subjugated Emishi) that had been his ancestors', and the governor of the six Oku districts (Izawa, Esashi, Waga, Hienuki, Shiba, and Iwate), but he was rebellious against the provincial governor from early on, and was said to be "ramming through the six districts and plundering the people." ...
