A Polish nobleman. He received a humanistic education in France and Italy, and in 1565 became a privy councillor to Sigismund II Augustus. After Augustus' death, he opposed the Habsburg candidate, and succeeded Stephen Batorui in ascending to the throne. He served under him as chancellor (1578-86) and commander-in-chief (81-86). He achieved success in the wars against Russia (80-81) and the Habsburgs (88). He also contributed to the ascendance of Sigismund III Vasa to the throne, but opposed his pro-Habsburg policies, leading to conflict. He led the country to victory in the wars against Sweden (1600) and Turkey (02). He also supported the arts and sciences, and made Zamość the easternmost centre of Renaissance culture.

A Polish nobleman. As the first chancellor of Stanisław II August Poniatowski (1764-67), he submitted a reform bill to the parliament in 1764, including reform of the Sejm system, restrictions on the privileges of the nobility, and the abolition of serfdom. In 1765, he implemented the emancipation of serfs on his own estates. In 1776, he compiled the radical judicial law "Statutes of Justice." He also played an active role as a leading member of the National Committee of Education.

A Polish nobleman. During the November Uprising (1830-31), he served as the Vienna representative of the uprising government. After returning to Poland, he advocated organic labor and worked hard to emancipate serfs, and served as president of the Agricultural Society (1858-62). He participated in the January Uprising (1863-64) as a member of the White Party. After the uprising failed, he went into exile in France.

ポーランドの貴族。スタニスワフ2世アウグスト・ポニャトフスキの初代宰相 (1764~67) として,1764年議会にセイム制度の改革,貴族特権の制限,農奴制の廃止などの改革法案を提出。 65年みずからの領地で農奴解放を実施。 76年急進的な裁判法『裁判法令集』を編纂。また国民教育委員会の指導的メンバーとして活躍した。

ポーランドの貴族。十一月蜂起 (1830~31) の際,蜂起政府のウィーン代表をつとめる。帰国後,有機的労働を提唱し,農奴解放に尽力,農業協会会長 (58~62) をつとめた。一月蜂起 (63~64) には白党として参加。蜂起失敗後,フランスに亡命。
