Semyon Yakovlevich Nadson

Russian poet. Born in St. Petersburg to a Jewish civil servant's family, he lost his parents at an early age and went on to become a soldier at the military academy, but he fell ill with pulmonary tuberculosis and retired in 1884 to recuperate. He began writing poetry at the age of 16, and in 1885 he received the Pushkin Prize for his first collection of poems. The motifs of his lyric poetry are the expression of the divided inner drama of adolescent doubt, despair, and rebellion, and he has a gentle, sing-song tone that he inherited from Lermontov and NA Nekrasov, and it is said that he set his poems to music and sang them widely.

ロシアの詩人。ペテルブルグのユダヤ人の官吏の家に生まれ，両親に早く死に別れ，士官学校へ進んで軍人になるが，肺結核を病んで1884年退職，療養。16歳のころから詩を書き，85年に出した処女詩集でプーシキン賞を受ける。彼の抒情詩のモティーフは，青春の懐疑，絶望，反逆といった分裂した内部のドラマの表白であり，レールモントフ，N.A.ネクラーソフを受け継ぐ心やさしい，歌うような調子をもち，曲をつけてひろく歌われたといわれる。
