Daughter of Cleisthenes, the tyrant of Sicyon in the 6th century BC. Date of birth and death unknown. Her father invited young men from various countries to his home to observe their abilities and characters in order to select a husband for his daughter (around 575 BC), and Megacles, the son of Alcmeon of the prestigious Alcmeonidae family in Athens, married Agariste, and she became the mother of Cleisthenes, who reformed the Athenian political system at the end of the 6th century BC. Her granddaughter, the daughter of Cleisthenes' brother, also had the same name, and married Xanthippus, becoming the mother of the famous Pericles.
