Daughter of Cleisthenes, the tyrant of Sicyon in the 6th century BC. Date of birth and death unknown. Her father invited young men from various countries to his home to observe their abilities and characters in order to select a husband for his daughter (around 575 BC), and Megacles, the son of Alcmeon of the prestigious Alcmeonidae family in Athens, married Agariste, and she became the mother of Cleisthenes, who reformed the Athenian political system at the end of the 6th century BC. Her granddaughter, the daughter of Cleisthenes' brother, also had the same name, and married Xanthippus, becoming the mother of the famous Pericles. [Ota Hidemichi]

前6世紀シキュオンの僭主クレイステネスの娘。生没年不詳。父はこの娘の婿選びに諸国の若者を自家に招いて彼らの能力･人物を観察したが(前575ころ)，アテナイの名門アルクメオニダイのアルクメオンの子メガクレスがアガリステを妻とし，前6世紀末アテナイ国制を改革したクレイステネスの母となった。なお，彼女の孫娘クレイステネスの兄弟の娘で，クサンティッポスに嫁ぎ有名なペリクレスの母となった人物も同名である。【太田秀通】
