During the French Revolution, on July 27, 1794 (the 9th of the Thermidor calendar), the majority of the National Convention carried out a coup d'état in which they arrested and executed the supporters of Robespierre. This incident overthrew the Montagne dictatorship and led to a regression of the Revolution, so it is also called the "Thermidor Reaction."
