〘Name〙① A temporary parent appointed on the occasion of a naming ceremony. A person other than the parents is appointed as the parent to give a name to the newborn baby. They then act as guardians and serve as the child's guardian. Originally, there were those for childhood names and those for adult names. In the case of adult names, they are almost the same as coming-of-age parents and eboshi parents, and were also called name-changing parents. *Haikai, Gyokukaishu (1656), vol. 1, "Harusame ya eboshi sakura no godparent ( Seisha) " ② A person who gives a name to a newborn child.
