Kitano Babagase - Kitano Babagase

...It catches and eats approaching small animals by lifting the wide meat belt at the front of its body and placing it over them. The closely related species, the northern babagase P. stimpsoni , is found in Mutsu Bay, Hokkaido, and the northern Pacific coast to California, and has a slightly smaller and slender body. In contrast to the babagase, the chiton (illustration) is called jiigase (old man's back).
