The capital of Washington State in the northwestern United States. It is located in the western part of the state, facing a bay at the innermost part of the Puget Sound, about 70 km southwest of Seattle. The town was founded in 1851. It is blessed with beautiful natural scenery, with Mount Olympus (2,428 m) and the Olympic Mountains to the northwest, Mount Rainier (4,392 m) towering with snow caps almost to the east, Budd Inlet to the north, and a series of green hills surrounding the city. It is a shipping port for various forest products such as lumber and plywood, ores, aluminum and steel products, etc. Oysters are also cultivated.
