Nasir al-Din al-Toushi

Iranian Twelver theologian, philosopher, and astronomer. Born in Tus, died in Baghdad. After Hulegu's invasion of Iran, he became his political advisor, and the observatory he built at Hulegu's command remains in Marāgha, Azerbaijan. As a philosopher, he grasped the true meaning of Ibn Sina's ontology and built the foundations of the theory of aṣāla al‐wujūd, the fundamental reality of existence, which is the mainstream of modern Iranian philosophy. His major works include Commentary on the Book of Instructions and Awakening of Ibn Sina, Book of Ethics of Nasir, and Astronomical Tables of Ilkhan.

イランの十二イマーム派の神学者，哲学者，天文学者。トゥースに生まれ，バグダードで没。フレグのイラン侵攻後は，その政治顧問となり，彼がフレグの命によって建設した天文台がアゼルバイジャンのマラーガMarāghaに残っている。哲学者として彼はイブン･シーナーの存在論の真意を把握し，近世イラン哲学の主流である〈存在の根源的実在性aṣāla al‐wujūd〉の説の基礎を築いた。主著は《イブン･シーナーの指示と覚醒の書注解》《ナーシルの倫理書》《イル･ハーン天文表》。
