Genabum

... As a key transportation point since ancient times, Orléans was an important stage in French history and was often invaded. Even before the Roman conquest, a Gallic tribe's settlement, Genabum, had already been established there, and the Romans also lived there. It was destroyed during Caesar's Gallic campaign (52 BC), but was rebuilt and later renamed Aurelianum after the Roman Emperor Aurelianus, and a bishopric was established there in the early 4th century.
