A village in Ishikawa County in the southeastern part of Fukushima Prefecture. Population 7,593 (1995). It is located southeast of Sukagawa City, on the western slope of the Abukuma Highlands. The terrain is undulating, with forests and wilderness covering about half of the village area. The Abukuma River flows along the western edge, and there is flat land along the coast, but the frost-free period is short, and damage from early freezing and drought is not uncommon. The main industry is agriculture, with rice and tobacco cultivation at the core, but in recent years pig farming and beef cattle breeding have become popular. In 1993, Fukushima Airport, which straddles Sukagawa City, opened, and companies have been attracted to the airport-based industrial park.Tamagawa [village]Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
