A term used in jiuta and sokyoku performance. (1) A heterophonic performance, especially in tegoto, in which the same or similar melody is played by two instruments, the "honte" and the "ji", with a half beat or one beat difference. When the two instruments each play only the "omote-ma" or "ura-ma" parts, or when the "honte" and "ji" exchange their melody parts, it is called "utte-chachi". (2) Especially in jiuta sangenkyoku, when pieces that originally exist as different pieces or different melodies are played together, it is called "uchiawase" or "kyokuchachi uchiawase". When one section of "shamisen honte" or "tegotomono" "dan" and "danmono" of sokyoku are played together, it is called "danawase".
