Nago Bay

Japanese: 名護湾 - なごわん

A bay in the northwest of Okinawa Island, Okinawa Prefecture, facing the East China Sea. It is surrounded by the mountain ranges of Okinawa Island and the Motobu Peninsula. The coastline, bounded by Mount Katsuu (452m) on the Motobu Peninsula, Mount Nago (345m) to the east, and Mount Onna (363m) to the south, is intermittently lined with white sand beaches and reefs, creating a magnificent landscape. It was once a dangerous route known as the "Nago Seven Bends," but today the road has been developed and it is famous as a summer resort and tourist destination. Flying fish are caught in the bay using a drive net and bonito fishing is practiced. The town of Nago is located at the back of the bay. It belongs to the Okinawa Coast Quasi-National Park, and the area from Cape Busena in the south to Onna Coast is designated as the Okinawa Coast Marine Park District.

沖縄県，沖縄島北西部，東シナ海に面する湾。沖縄島の脊梁山地と本部半島に囲まれている。本部半島の嘉津宇岳（452m），東の名護岳（345m），南の恩納岳（おんなだけ。 363m）に囲まれた海岸線は白砂の浜と岩礁が断続し，みごとな景観をみせる。かつては「名護七曲がり」といわれた危険な道筋であったが，今日では道路も整備され，避暑地，観光地として有名。湾内ではトビウオの追込網漁やカツオ釣りが行なわれる。湾奥に名護市の市街地がある。沖縄海岸国定公園に属し，南部の部瀬名岬周辺から恩納海岸にかけては沖縄海岸海域公園地区に指定されている。
