Dial gauge - Dial gauge

Dial gauge - Dial gauge

A length measuring device. The most commonly used type is a clock-shaped one with hour and minute hands as indicators. The slight movement of the measuring spindle is magnified by a gear mechanism, which moves the indicator and can be read on a scale.

The dial has 100 divisions around the circumference, with each division representing 0.01 mm. There are also some special dials where each division represents 0.001 mm.

Due to their structure, there is a limit to the range of movement of the spindle, and therefore the length measurement range is often around 5 to 10 millimeters. Most 0.001 millimeter scale gauges have a resolution of 0.3 to 2 millimeters. Measurements are made by placing the contact point at the tip of the spindle against the object being measured. In addition to comparative measurements of length, they are widely used for measuring runout of workpieces, parallelism between two surfaces, and other measurements. Lever-type dial gauges, which use a lever to change the direction of movement of the contact point, are convenient for use in tight spaces. Some recent dial gauges are capable of digital display, and progress is being made in automating dimensional management.
