A city located in the southwest of Hiroshima Prefecture, facing Hiroshima Bay. It was incorporated as a city in 1988. Hatsukaichi, the city's center, has been a key point on the Sanyo Road since the Middle Ages, and a market was held on the 20th of each month. In the early modern period, it was a post station between Hiroshima Castle and Kunami-juku, and prospered as a place to collect and distribute forest products from the interior. It is connected to the Sanyo Main Line, Hiroshima Electric Railway, Sanyo Expressway, and Hiroshima-Iwakuni Road, and many people have moved to the city from neighboring Hiroshima City, leading to an increase in large-scale housing complexes. Woodworking is thriving, with a lumber industrial complex being built on reclaimed land in the waterfront. Sake brewing and oyster farming are also carried out. Miyajima, where Itsukushima Shrine is located, is part of the Setonaikai National Park. In March 2003, Saiki-gun's Saiki Town and Yoshiwa Village were incorporated, and in November 2005, Saiki-gun's Miyajima Town and Ono Town were incorporated. ^{489.48 km2} . 114,038 people (2010).

広島県南西部，広島湾に面する市。1988年市制。中心の廿日市は中世以来山陽道の要衝で，毎月20日に市が開かれた。近世には広島城下と玖波宿の間の宿駅で，奥地から運ばれる林産物の集散でも栄えた。山陽本線，広島電鉄，山陽自動車道，広島岩国道路が通じ，隣接する広島市からの転入者も多く，大規模な住宅団地が増加。臨海部の埋立地に木材工業団地ができるなど，木工業が盛ん。酒造，カキ養殖も行われる。厳島(いつくしま)神社のある宮島は瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。2003年３月，佐伯郡佐伯町，吉和村を，2005年11月佐伯郡宮島町，大野町を編入。489.48km²。11万4038人（2010）。
