A general term for the Leonotis genus of the Lamiaceae family. They are annual or perennial plants, with some species becoming shrubs. About 20 species are found in South Africa. The leaves are ovate or lanceolate, stalked or sessile. The flowers are white or orange, grow in dense whorls in the leaf axils, and the flower tube is as long as the calyx.
