An arboreal marsupial mammal of the Cuscus family, resembling a fox with its triangular-shaped head and thick, bushy tail. Body length is 45-62 cm, tail length 27-38 cm. Its thick, woolly, fine fur comes in a variety of colors, including gray, reddish brown, and black-brown, and it was once hunted in large numbers, hundreds of thousands of them per year, as fur-loving animals for women. Its brood pouch has two to four nipples. It is omnivorous, eating nuts, flowers, leaves, insects, and small animals, and its ecology is more similar to that of a squirrel than to that of a fox.
