Nakijin [village] - Nakijin
A village in Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture. It consists of the northeastern part of the Motobu Peninsula and Kouri Island (area 2.95 km2) to the east. Population 9,486 (1995). It faces the East China Sea to the north and east, and Nago City to the south. On the southern side of the peninsula, hills stretch west from Mt. Otsupa, and flat land spreads along the coast. Kouri Island has developed coastal terraces. During the Sanzan period from the 14th to 15th centuries, the Hokuzan royal line ruled the northern part of Okinawa Island from Nakijin Castle (Kitayama Castle), and this place was their center.

沖縄県国頭(くにがみ)郡の村。本部(もとぶ)半島北東部と東の古宇利(こうり)島(面積2.95km2)よりなる。人口9486(1995)。北と東は東シナ海に面し,南は名護市で,半島部の南側は乙羽(おつぱ)岳から西に丘陵がのび,海岸沿いに平地が広がる。古宇利島は海岸段丘が発達する。14世紀から15世紀の三山(さんざん)時代には北山(ほくざん)王統が今帰仁城(北山城)にあって沖縄島北部を支配し,当地はその中心地であった。
