Died: October 6, 1959. Settignano American art historian. Raised in Boston, he graduated from Harvard University in 1887. After helping an art collector purchase Italian artworks, he devoted himself to appraisal and art history. He excelled in analyzing the styles and techniques of Italian painting. His major works include The Venetian Painters of the Renaissance (1894), Aesthetics and History (1950), and Italian Painters of the Renaissance (52).
