They are also called Annamite or Kinh people. They are the main inhabitants of Vietnam. Some also live in Cambodia. They generally have a brachycephalic head and short limbs, and are typically Mongoloid. They developed the Dong Son culture, a metalware culture, in the Song Khoi River Delta in northern Vietnam in the 14th century BC, but were strongly influenced by Chinese civilization from around the time of Christ. They are said to have reached the Mekong Delta in the 18th century. The majority of them are wet-rice farmers, and several farming families gather together to form villages. The family system is patrilineal exogamy, just like in China, but women's status is actually quite high compared to China. In terms of religion, Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism introduced from China, Catholicism during the French colonial period, and new religions are also found.

安南人，キン族ともいう。ベトナムの基幹住民。カンボジアにも一部居住する。形質的には一般に短頭型で手足は短く，典型的モンゴロイドといえる。ベトナム北部のソンコイ川デルタ地帯で前 14世紀に金属器文化のドンソン文化を発達させたが，紀元前後から中国文明の影響を強く受けた。 18世紀になってメコン・デルタに達したといわれる。大多数は水稲農耕民でいくつかの農家が集って集落をつくっている。家族制度は中国と同じく父系外婚制度であるが，中国に比べ，女性の地位は実際にはかなり高い。宗教的には，中国から入った道教，儒教，仏教，フランス支配時代のカトリックのほか，新興宗教もみられる。
