Japanese: 奈川の牛稼 - ながわのうしかせぎ

A packer from Nakamura Village, Chikuma County, Shinano Province (present-day Minamiazumi County, Nagano Prefecture). This village is a small village located in highland among the mountains, bordering Hida at Nomugi Pass, and in the early modern period it was under the control of the Owari Domain. As there was little arable land, the people made money from the mountains, but in the late early modern period they mainly made money from packing cattle. In 1838 (Tenpo 9), there were 366 households, 83 pairs of cattle, and 415 head, with each pair driving 5 head. Traveling from Matsumoto to Hida, they crossed the Hofukuji Pass and traveled along the Hokkoku Kaido to Echigo Takada, along the Nakasendo to Kuraganogashi in Joshu, along the Koshu Dochu to Edo Yotsuya, and as far west as Nagoya, and were known as the "Okabune of Bishu."

信濃国筑摩郡奈川村(現，長野県南安曇郡)の駄賃稼。この村は飛驒とは野麦峠で境を接する山間の高地にある小村で，近世は尾張藩領であった。耕地が少ないので山稼ぎをしていたが，近世後期には牛による駄賃稼を主とした。1838年(天保9)には家数366軒，牛数83組，415匹で，1組が5匹追いであった。松本から飛驒への往還であるが，保福寺峠を越えて北国街道を越後高田まで，中山道を上州倉賀野河岸まで，甲州道中は江戸四谷まで，西は名古屋まで活躍し，〈尾州の岡船〉と称された。
