Nurmi (English spelling) Paavo Johannes Nurmi

A Finnish track and field athlete. He debuted at the 7th Olympiad in Antwerp in 1920, winning the 10,000m and 10,000m cross country races, both individual and team. At the Paris Olympics in 1924, he won the 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m cross country races, as well as the 3000m team race, achieving the feat of winning five gold medals in one Olympic Games. He also won the 10,000m at the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928, leaving an immortal record of nine gold medals and three silver medals in total at the Olympics. In terms of records, he set 21 new world records, including personal bests, in 12 events from 1500m to 20,000m over a ten-year period from 1921. He was called a "running human machine." At the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, he was the final runner in the torch relay.

フィンランドの陸上競技選手。1920年の第7回オリンピック・アントワープ大会に初出場して1万メートル、1万メートルクロスカントリーの個人・団体戦で優勝。24年のオリンピック・パリ大会では1500メートル、5000メートル、1万メートルクロスカントリーの個人・団体、3000メートル団体に優勝、1回のオリンピックで5個の金メダル獲得の偉業を遂げた。28年のオリンピック・アムステルダム大会の1万メートルでも優勝し、オリンピックで合計9個の金メダル、3個の銀メダルという不朽の記録を残した。記録的にも1921年から10年間に1500メートルから2万メートルまでの12種目に自己記録更新を含めて21回にわたって世界新記録を樹立。「走る人間機械」といわれた。52年のオリンピック・ヘルシンキ大会では聖火リレー最終走者を務めた。
