Nakayama Shrine

It is located in Ichinomiya, Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture. It is said to enshrine Kanayamahiko-no-Mikoto, but it is also said that Kagami-tsukuri-no-Mikoto is the main deity, and Amanonukado-no-Kami and Ishikoridome-no-Kami are enshrined as secondary deities. According to the shrine's tradition, it was founded in 706 (Keiun 3), and in 860 (Jogan 2), it was given the rank of Ju-shi-ge (Junior Fourth Rank), and in the Engishiki it was listed as a Myojin Taisha (Famous Shrine). In 1017 (Kannin 1), after Emperor Goichijo ascended to the throne, he was given the honor of being given the once-in-a-lifetime Great Divine Treasure by sending an envoy to offer the sacred treasure to a famous shrine. During the Mongol invasion, prayers were offered for the surrender of foreign nations. It was revered as the Ichinomiya of Mimasaka Province (northern Okayama Prefecture). Formerly a national shrine. The annual festival is held on April 3rd. The main hall was rebuilt in 1559 (Eiroku 2) by Amago Haruhisa, lord of Toda Castle in Izumo Province (Shimane Prefecture), and has a special style known as Nakayama-zukuri, which has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. At the entrance to the shrine, there is a stone torii gate with both ends of the crossbeams not extending beyond the pillars, which is thought to be the prototype of the Myojin torii gate and is known as Nakayama torii.

岡山県津山市一宮(いちのみや)に鎮座。金山彦命(かなやまひこのみこと)を祀(まつ)るというが、鏡作神(かがみつくりのみこと)を主神とし天糠戸神(あまのぬかどのかみ)、石凝姥神(いしこりどめのかみ)を相殿(あいどの)として祀るともいう。社伝によると、706年（慶雲3）の創祀(そうし)といわれ、860年（貞観2）に従(じゅ)四位下の神階を授かり、『延喜式(えんぎしき)』では名神(みょうじん)大社に列した。1017年（寛仁1）、後一条(ごいちじょう)天皇の即位後、使者を遣わして神宝を名社に奉幣する一代一度の大神宝の栄誉を受けた。蒙古(もうこ)襲来のとき、異国降伏の祈祷(きとう)を行った。美作(みまさか)国（岡山県北部）一宮として崇敬された。旧国幣中社。例大祭は4月3日。本殿は出雲(いずも)国（島根県）富田(とだ)城主尼子晴久(あまごはるひさ)が1559年（永禄2）に再建したもので、中山造とよばれる特殊な形式をもち、国の重要文化財に指定されている。参道入口には、貫(ぬき)の両端が柱の外に抜けていない石鳥居があり、明神鳥居の原型とみられ中山鳥居とよばれている。
