Kibune Shrine
[1] A shrine located on the middle slope of Mount Kibune in Kurama Kibune-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City. Formerly a Kanpei-chusha (medium-ranked shrine) . The deity enshrined is Takaokami-no-kami. He is the water deity of Heian-kyo and was worshipped as the deity who prays for rain and stops the rain. It is the head shrine of the approximately 280 Kibune shrines throughout the country. The deities enshrined are Takaokami-no-kami and Kuraokami-no-kami . It is said that Kibune Shrine in Yamashiro Province (Kyoto City) was enshrined in 703 ( the third year of the Taiho era).

[一] 京都市左京区鞍馬貴船町、貴船山の中腹にある神社。旧官幣中社。祭神は高龗神(たかおかみのかみ)。平安京の水神で祈雨、止雨の神としてあがめられた。全国約二八〇の貴船神社の総本社。貴布禰神社。木船神社。[二] 山形県東田川郡羽黒町にある神社。旧郷社。祭神は高龗神(たかおかみのかみ)、闇龗神(くらおかみのかみ)。大宝三年(七〇三)山城国(京都市)の貴船神社を勧請(かんじょう)したといわれる。
