Masayuki Nagase

Japanese: 長瀬真幸 - ながせまさき

1765-1835 A Japanese classicist of the late Edo period.
Born in 1762. A samurai of the Higo Kumamoto domain. He learned Confucianism from Kusano Senkei and rites and ancient customs from his father Nagase Masanori. In 1792, he became a disciple of Motoori Norinaga in Ise. He also became acquainted with Kato Chikage and Murata Shunkai in Edo. He passed away on May 28, 1830, at the age of 71. He was known as Shichirohei and his pen names were Tabuse and Soshoen. His works include "Higo Jishiseki Kosho" and his poetry collection "Tenro Kashu".

明和2年生まれ。肥後熊本藩士。草野潜渓(せんけい)に儒学を,父長瀬正常に礼式と故実をまなぶ。寛政5年伊勢(いせ)の本居宣長(もとおり-のりなが)の門人となる。また江戸で加藤千蔭,村田春海らとまじわった。天保(てんぽう)6年5月28日死去。71歳。通称は七郎平。号は田廬(たぶせ),双松(そうしょう)園。著作に「肥後事蹟考証」,歌集に「田廬歌集」など。
