A fence net is set up to lure fish into a fishing net, and a funnel-shaped climbing net is attached on the way to make the net wider and deeper, so that once fish have passed through the climbing net and entered the fishing net, they cannot escape because of the hooks. Small ones have been in use since the end of the Edo period, but in the Taisho period, this fishing method was introduced to existing fixed nets, and as they became larger, they became revolutionary fishing nets with great efficiency. 〘名〙① 獣を捕えるための、網でつくったわな。※幼学読本（1887）〈西邨貞〉五「獅子は〈略〉猟師が設け置きたるおとし網に懸りけり」② 建網(たてあみ)の一種。垣網をたてて誘導した魚を魚捕網（ふくろ網）に入れる途中に、漏斗状の乗上がり網を付け、魚捕網を広く深くし、乗上がり網を通って一度魚捕網にはいった魚は、返しがあって再び逃げ出せないようにしてある。小型のものが江戸末期から使用されていたが、大正期に至って、この漁法が在来の定置網に導入され、その大型化とともに、画期的な能率魚網となった。ふくべ網。地獄網。
