Japanese: 長洲[町] - ながす

A town in Tamana County in northwest Kumamoto Prefecture. Facing the Ariake Sea, the town is known for its gillnet and line fishing, as well as seaweed farming. It is served by the Kagoshima Main Line and a ferry boat runs between the town and Tabira Port in Unzen City on the Shimabara Peninsula. With the progress of land reclamation for industrial use and the influx of large companies, the town is transforming into an industrial city. The Hamayumi Shinto Ritual (Matobakai) at Shioji Shrine is famous as a naked festival. 19.43 ^km2 . Population: 16,594 (2010).
