A mammal of the family Baleen whale (illustration). In the family Baleen whale, all seven cervical vertebrae are free. This large species lives in oceans around the world and can reach a body length of 26-27m. Individuals in the Northern Hemisphere are 2-3m smaller. Females are also about 1m larger than males. It is also called "noso". Its baleen plates are up to 70cm long, with 260-480 on each side, the front quarter of the right side being milky white, and the rest blue-black (the bristles are the same color). Its head is flat and V-shaped when viewed from above, with a pointed front. Its dorsal fin is large.

ヒゲクジラ亜目ナガスクジラ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。ナガスクジラ科では7個の頸椎はすべて遊離している。世界中の海に生息し，体長26～27mに達する大型種。北半球の個体は2～3m小さい。また雌が雄より1mほど大きい。〈のそ〉ともいう。ひげ板は最大70cm，左右に各260～480枚あり，右側前方の1/4は乳白色で，他は青黒色(剛毛も同色)。頭部は扁平で，上から見ると前にとがったV字形をなす。背びれは大きい。
