Nakajima Sanpoemon

Japanese: 中島三甫右衛門 - なかじまみほえもん

Kabuki actor. There are six generations. (1) The first (?-1762 (12th year of Horeki)): A disciple of the first Nakajima Kanzaemon. He started out in small plays, took the name Sanpoemon in 1717 (2nd year of Kyoho), and rose to the rank of Kamijokichi in the role of Jitsuaku (real evil). He had a striking appearance and a loud voice, and was a master of court noble wickedness, such as the uke in Shibaraku. He is the creator of the beard wig style. (2) The second (1724-82, 9th year of Kyoho-Tenmei)): The biological son of the first. He succeeded Sanpoemon after his father's death. Known as "Tenko of Yushima," he was a real evil performer. His style of acting added humor.

歌舞伎俳優。6世まである。(1)初世(？‐1762(宝暦12))　初世中島勘左衛門の弟子。小芝居から出て，1717年(享保2)三甫右衛門を名のり，翌々年には実悪（じつあく）の上上吉にまで上る。容貌魁偉で大声を発し，《暫》のウケなど公家悪の名人であった。鬚鬘（ひげかずら）の創始者。(2)2世(1724‐82∥享保9‐天明2)　初世の実子。父の死後三甫右衛門を相続。〈湯島の天幸〉といわれ，実悪の立物。おかしみを加えた芸風。
