It began as the Nagasaki Iron Works, built by the Edo Shogunate under the guidance of Dutch engineers in 1857. It is currently run by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It was loaned from the Meiji government to Mitsubishi in 1884, sold off in 1887, and became Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's main shipyard after the company became independent in 1917. It continued to expand thereafter, building many ships including the battleship Musashi, forming the foundation of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In 2015, the Kosuge Ship Repair Dock Site, the Third Dock, the Giant Cantilever Crane, the Former Pattern Shop, and Senshokaku were registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining." → Related Articles Glover House | Mitsubishi Zaibatsu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
