1346‐1405 A Korean politician from the end of the Goryeo Dynasty and the beginning of the Yi Dynasty. His pen name was Myeongjung and his title was Yujae. He was from Pyongyang. He passed the civil service examination in 1374 and entered the government service. From 1388 onwards he was trusted by Yi Seong-gye (later Taejo) and worked hard to help him gain control of power by supporting King Gongyang and carrying out reforms to the land system (the 1391 Government Land Law). After the establishment of the Yi Dynasty, he was active in domestic affairs and diplomacy with Ming for three generations under Taejo, Jeongjong and Taejong, and rose to the position of Chief Minister of the Government. In 1397, he compiled the Six Codes of Economics, which became the basic administrative code for the early Yi Dynasty. His posthumous name was Munchung.
